About us

Peter and Brooks supplies fine calibrated coloured stones to the watch and jewellery industries worldwide. The company was founded in Thailand in 2017 by Laurent Peter and Catherine Brooks, both originating from Switzerland, who have a combined experience of fifteen years in the gem business.

The company’s head office is located in Bangkok and in-house manufacturing is based in Sri Lanka with a dedicated team of thirty gem cutters. The company delivers stones that have been meticulously selected and re-cut to the highest standard of Swiss precision with a strong focus on colour-matching.

Our Stone Selection Process

Thailand is the main trading center for coloured stones, with gems and precious metals representing the Kingdom’s third most important export. The Peter and Brooks Bangkok office is strategically positioned in the district of Bangrak, known as a major gem trading and manufacturing hub, thus facilitating daily transactions with suppliers.

The essence of the company's activity lies within sourcing cut stones, which have mainly been processed in Thailand or in India, and having them re-cut in-house to our customers' exacting requirements.

Peter and Brooks sources and manufactures a large variety of fine coloured gemstones including ruby, emerald and sapphire (also non-beryllium yellow sapphire), as well as spinel, tsavorite and aquamarine to name a few.

In-house sorting is founded upon three major pillars:

COLOUR

We work with a large palette ranging from soft pastel hues all the way to intensely saturated colours.

CLARITY

We have the ability to offer several qualities including eye-clean and loupe-clean stones.

SIZE

We select stones that once re-cut will have optimal proportions, symmetry and, therefore, brilliance.

Our In-house Manufacturing

In-house Manufacturing

The factory was established in 2012 by Laurent Peter and his Sri Lankan business associate. It is located approximately 20km from Colombo, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, and has organically grown into what is now a highly skilled team of forty staff including cutters, polishers, stock and quality control all under the guidance of the factory manager, Rasika.

The manufacturing combines a use of Swiss-made machines and machines that have been assembled in-house in order to optimise the result of the calibrated stones. The company produces a wide range of shapes including oval, marquise, baguette, round, swifted and cabochon.

For round, the size ranges from 0.50mm to circa 5.00mm with a tolerance of 0.05mm and can be supplied in single, half and full-cut. The baguettes can be straight, tapered and, if required, grooved for invisible setting with a tolerance of 0.02mm.

Peter and Brooks has the ability to collaborate with clients on custom-made projects as a result of the company’s close proximity to the gemstone marketplace and of having it’s own cutting facility.
